When the Sailing Home Stamp Set and Smooth Sailing Dies first came out they were accompanied by a coordinating paper pack. Sadly, although the stamps and dies carried over, the paper was retired. So I was excited to see the amazing New Horizons 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (DSP). This pack contains 48 sheets (12 double-sided designs) that have been hand-painted by the talented artists at Stampin’ Up! As I’d hoped, there were backgrounds that were suitable for a sailing theme, and I simply couldn’t resist creating today’s card.

NEW HORIZONS
As expected I began this project with a background design from the New Horizons DSP. I thought this watery scene painted in Blackberry Bliss, Polished Pink and Misty Moonlight was perfect but I didn’t need it all. In fact my background layer uses just the left half of the 6″ x 6″ sheet.
After cutting the sheet to 3″ x 6″, I trimmed 1-3/4″ off the top of the piece. Then using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I mounted the rest onto a 3-1/8″ x 4-5/8″ piece of Misty Moonlight Card.
For my card base I used my Paper Trimmer to cut and score some Blackberry Bliss Card. Then I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder. With that done I fixed the assembled background layer onto the front with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Now I needed the large yacht from the Sailing Home Stamp Set and a Night Of Navy ink pad. First I stamped the yacht onto the 1-3/4″ x 3″ piece cut from the New Horizons background. Then I stamped it in the bottom right corner of a 4″ x 5-1/4″ layer of Basic White Card. Finally I stamped the yacht in the bottom right corner on the front of a Basic White Medium Envelope.
Using liquid glue I fixed the Basic White piece inside the card base, before setting it and the envelope aside.
THROUGH IT TOGETHER
For my sentiment I turned to the Through It Together Stamp Set and chose “I am here for you”. After stamping it onto a scrap of Thick Basic White Card I was ready for a little die-cutting.

From the Smooth Sailing Dies I took the larger yacht die and the small banner die. Then I lined them up on the stamped image and sentiment, and cut them out using the Mini Cut & Emboss Machine.
To complete the card I attached the sentiment and yacht to the background scene using Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.
I really love how this card turned out. That background really does all the work for me, and all I had to do was add a couple of details. Stamping the yacht onto the small piece of DSP meant that it blended with the background. I decided this was a better option than stamping it onto Basic White Card.
The designs in the New Horizons DSP will work with so many of the stamp sets I already have in my stash it’s hard to know what to make next. If you have a suggestion, please leave a comment below and I’ll see what I can do.
