Well, that was a fun 12 hours or so! The thunderstorms that were forecast for yesterday afternoon never materialised, which was nice. However around 2pm last night we lost power as a result of high winds courtesy of post-tropical storm Elsa. It was still off when we got up this morning so I spent few peaceful hours designing new projects in my craft studio. Well I had to so something while we waited for the power to be restored.

ELEGANT BACKGROUND
This project began with one of the patterns from the Simply Elegant 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper (DSP). I cut my first piece 2-1/4″ x 6″ and used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) to attach it to the flap of a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope. Then I trimmed off the excess paper with my Paper Snips, using the edge of the flap as a guide.
Next I cut a strip of the paper 2-1/4″ x 5-1/2″, as well as a piece of Very Vanilla Card the same size. Then I glued the DSP onto the Very Vanilla Card to give it some added strength. Finally I completed the layer by attaching some 3/8″ Very Vanilla Scalloped Lace Trim down one long edge using Tear & Tape Adhesive.
That just left the inside of the card to think about. I could have simply cut a strip of the DSP, but I had something a little fancier in mind. So instead I took my Paper Snips and carefully cut out one of the motifs from the pattern. Then using liquid glue I fixed the cut piece to the top of a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Very Vanilla Card.

PEACEFUL MOMENTS
By now I’d had time to think about the card base and I decided to use Basic Gray Card to coordinate with the DSP. Using my Paper Trimmer I cut and scored the card, then folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder.
Next I used liquid glue to fix the decorated liner inside the card base. Then I added the lace trimmed layer to the front with Stampin’ Dimensionals. That just left the sentiment to do.
I wanted to find something from a stamp set I haven’t used in a while. After considering quite a few I settled on the sentiment only Peaceful Moments Stamp Set. I chose “Thinking of you with all my heart”, and stamped it onto Thick Very Vanilla Card using Basic Gray ink.

Next I chose the smaller of the two plainer dies in the Painted Labels Dies set. After die-cutting the sentiment, I cut two extra pieces from Thick Very Vanilla Card. Then using liquid glue I stacked the three labels together with the stamped one on top.
Finally with a few Stampin’ Dimensionals under the right hand side, and liquid glue under the left I added the assembled sentiment to my card front. With that my project was finished.
This is such a simple layout but the DSP and lace trim adds just the right amount of interest. What do you think?

Just a quick reminder that today is the last day to subscribe to Paper Pumpkin to get the July kit called The Adventure Begins. The kit has everything you need to create 12 layered cards (4 each of 3 designs). It’s designed for beginner crafters and you’ll need no special tools or knowledge. Why not give it a try?
