This Little Piggy Stamp Set from Stampin’ Up! is so cute, with an assortment of line art pig images and a variety of sweet sayings. Sadly though it’s been sitting unloved on my shelf for far too long and this week’s Global Design Project challenge #GDP147 – Country / Farm Life gave me just the excuse I needed to ink it up again.
For my colour scheme I thought I’d draw my inspiration from this week’s Clean and Simple, Colours & Sketches challenge CAS281 – Colours. The colours I had to work with were Coastal Cabana, Lemon Lime Twist and Powder Pink, and although I was initially a bit nervous about the colour combination, I was surprised by how easily this project came together.
The card base is a piece of Thick Whisper White Card cut and scored on my Stampin’ Trimmer, folded along the scored line and the crease sharpened with a Bone Folder. On the front of the card base I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) to attach a layer of Coastal Cabana Card and then a layer of Lemon Lime Twist Card.
The background scene is a piece of Whisper White card with the sky sponged very lightly in Coastal Cabana ink. The grass is Lemon Lime Twist ink sponged across the piece using the torn edge of some scrap paper to give definition to the ground without leaving hard lines.
The trees are an image from the Waterfront Stamp Set stamped in Lemon Lime Twist ink. The clouds come from the This Little Piggy Stamp Set and are stamped using Coastal Cabana ink stamped twice onto some scrap paper before being stamped onto the scene.
With the background complete I mounted it onto a layer of Coastal Cabana Card with liquid glue and then added it to my card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
The sitting pig image (with the ‘This little piggy… sentiment) was stamped onto some Powder Pink card with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I used a piece of Stampin’ Sponge to tap some Powder Pink ink over the surface of the pig to create some dimension, and then used a Powder Pink Stampin Write Marker (from the 2017-2019 In Colors) to add darker accents inside the pig’s mouth and ears, on the hooves, and under the chin, belly and bottom.
With the colouring complete, I cut out the pig using Paper Snips and attached it to the sponged scene with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Going back to the pig stamp I inked up the sentiment at the bottom using Tuxedo Black ink and covered the area immediately above the sentiment with some sellotape just in case there was some stray ink there. The sentiment was then stamped onto a narrow strip of Whisper White Card that I’d lightly sponged with Coastal Cabana ink to match the sponged sky. I fixed the sentiment to a piece of Coastal Cabana Card with liquid glue before adding it to the front of the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
All I had left to do was create a coordinating Whisper White Medium Envelope and a layer for the inside of the card. I decided to use the torn edge of some scrap paper as a mask so that I could sponge some Lemon Lime Twist ink along the bottom edges and then lightly sponged some Coastal Cabana ink above.
On the Whisper White layer I then used Tuxedo Black ink to stamp the ‘says, Thanks’ sentiment from the This Little Piggy Stamp Set. With the completed layer fixed inside the card base using liquid glue my project design was finished.
I’m having such fun with these different challenges, I wonder what will appear in my e-mail inbox next?
