My regular blog followers will know that I love to get the maximum use out of my crafting budget. So when I saw the Signs of Santa Stamp Set I immediately thought of, Mother’s Day! Of course I’d need a little help from some other stamp sets, and soon I had what I needed. With Apron of Love and Letter Board Messages from the 2018/2019 Annual Catalogue, I was good to go.
THE BASICS
Beginning with a piece of Thick Very Vanilla Card, I cut and scored it using my Stampin’ Trimmer. Then I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder.
Next I took the leaf design from the Tropical Escape 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (DSP) and attached it to the front with Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow). Looking through my scraps of Wood Textures 6″ x 6″ DSP I found a narrow strip and added that to the front of the card too.
APRON OF LOVE AND LETTER BOARD MESSAGES
Next came the sentiment from the Apron of Love Stamp Set, well two sentiments actually. First I stamped the word ‘Mum’ onto Very Vanilla Card with Real Red ink. Then I stamped the ‘..best.. ..ever..’ around the ‘mum’ with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. This was really easy as, like the other two sets, the Apron of Love Stamp Set is made from see-through photopolymer.
I thought that the sentiment would look great as a framed ‘picture’ and that’s where Letter Board Messages came in.
I chose the smaller ‘frame’ image and stamped it around the sentiment with Soft Suede ink. With that done I cut around the frame using my Stampin’ Trimmer.
‘Hanging’ the picture was easy using the bow image from Letter Board Messages stamped onto the background of the card with Tuxedo Black ink. Then I added the ‘picture’ with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the illusion was complete.
MUM (OR MOM)
All I needed for the front of the card was Mum (or Mom, depending on how you read the sentiment). She’s straight out of the Signs of Santa Stamp Set, stamped onto Very Vanilla Card with Tuxedo Black ink.
I needed to make sure she didn’t look too Christmassy so chose very different colours from my Stampin’ Blends collection. Her dress is light Pool Party, the heart on the apron light Real Red. Her hair is light and dark Smoky Slate, with light Shaded Spruce on the holly in her hair. Finally her face is Ivory. I didn’t worry too much about shading, just adding a line of light Pool Party around her collar and the edge of her apron.
Now that she was all coloured, I was ready to cut her out. This was a really simple task using my Big Shot and Magnetic Platform with the coordinating die from the Santa’s Signpost Framelits. ‘Mum’ was then fixed to the front of the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
FINISHING TOUCHES.
The ‘mum’ image is so cute I couldn’t resist stamping her again with Tuxedo Black ink in the bottom corner of a layer of Very Vanilla Card. Then I coloured the image using the same Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers to match the front of the card. Finally the completed layer was fixed inside the card base with Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow).
All that was left was the Very Vanilla Medium Envelope. I could have stamped and coloured ‘Mum’ on that too, but instead decided to use up the rest of the leafy DSP. All it took was some liquid glue on the envelope flap, fix the DSP to it and then cut it to shape with Paper Snips.
One last minute detail, a single Tranquil Tide pearl from the Share What You Love Artisan Pearls, fixed on ‘Mum’s’ hair on the front of the card. My very early Mother’s Day card was finished.
OK I know she has holly in her hair, but to be honest I don’t think it’s that obvious. Or maybe she’s just a little eccentric. Either way I think she’s sweet. What do you think?
