Now we’re into February there’s only 24 days of the Stampin’ Up! Sale-A-Bration promotion left. When choosing my free items I’m torn between choosing one of the gorgeous Designer Series Paper (DSP) packs or the exclusive stamp sets. I suppose it’s a good job that the promotion coincides with the new Mini Catalogue. I always take advantage and stock up on new products, as well as staples like card, envelopes and adhesives. Then I get to choose several free items. One of my favourites this year is the Flower & Field 12″ x 12″ DSP; with a florals on one side and simple patterns on the reverse it’s really versatile.

FLOWER & FIELD
When I first saw the Flower & Field DSP I immediately saw lots of black that made the florals jump off the page. But not every design has a black background. Today I chose one highlighting one of the 2020-2022 In Colors; Just Jade, and this influenced my card base colour.
I began my project using my Paper Trimmer to cut and score some Just Jade Card. Then I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder to create the card base.
Next, for my simple design I needed three pieces of the Flower & Field DSP. I hate wasting paper so I started by cutting a 3″ x 12″ strip. Then from this strip I cut a piece 5-1/2″ long. Using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I fixed the piece to the front of my card base up against the crease.
To ‘separate’ the DSP from the card layer below I decided to add a thin strip of Basic Black Card. I cut a 1/16″ strip and with a thin line of liquid glue attached it up against the edge of the DSP. Then I trimmed off the excess using Paper Snips.
From the remaining piece of DSP I next cut a 2-1/4″ x 6″ strip. I glued this to the flap of a Whisper White Medium Envelope. Then with my Paper Snips I trimmed off the excess paper using the edge of the flap as a guide.
I needed just one more piece of DSP from my original strip, and I cut this one 3/4″ x 5-1/4″. Using liquid glue once again I fixed the piece against one long edge of a 4″ x 5-1/4″ layer of Whisper White Card. Then I glued a 1/16″ strip of Basic Black Card against the edge of the DSP and trimmed off the excess. Finally I fixed the assembled piece inside the card base.

MANY MATES
In no time at all I was ready to add my sentiment. Today I chose “Happy Birthday!” from the sentiment only Many Mates Stamp Set.
Using Tuxedo Black ink I stamped the sentiment onto a scrap of Whisper White Card. Next I punched it out using the Regular Postage Stamp Punch. Then I glued the sentiment onto a 1-1/2″ x 2-1/8″ piece of Basic Black Card, before adding it to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

To finish I chose self-adhesive Gilded Gems to embellish the yellow flowers on the front of the card. On the two larger flowers I used the largest of the gems, while the other two flowers received the smallest gems in the pack.
In no time at all my simple but pretty card was complete. What’s more I used less than a quarter sheet of DSP to decorate the front, inside and envelope. After all, even though the paper was free there’s no point in wasting it. What do you think?
You’ll find another project using the Flower & Field DSP in my earlier blog post Sale-A-Bration simple stamping double.
