At long last, after providing three negative CoVID tests in the space of 2 weeks, and completing my required self-isolation period in the UK, I am free to go out. So today my daughter and I will be making a quick trip to the shops for some essentials. Of course we’re bound to come back with some other things too but that’s OK. I’m planning a quick browse around the book section as they are so much cheaper in the UK than Canada. I even brought a couple of bookmarks with me just in case, including this one created using the fun Hey Chick! Stamp Set.

HEY CHICK!
This bookmark project was one of those things that wasn’t really planned at all. I’d been playing with the Hey Chick! Stamp Set making a variety of projects and ended up with some leftover pieces. One of them was my favourite image of the chicken with the scruffy head, coloured using Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. I certainly wasn’t going to let that go to waste and this was the result.
The chick image was stamped onto some Very Vanilla Card with Basic Gray ink. Then I coloured it using Mango Melody and Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Blends. There are now coordinating dies for the Hey Chick Stamp Set (called Chick Dies) but I hadn’t received them at the time, so I decided to fussy-cut the image instead.
First though I remembered to fix some Adhesive Sheet to the back of the piece. This would make attaching it to the bookmark a lot easier. So with the adhesive done I cut out the chick using Paper Snips and set it aside.
HAPPY DAY
In no time at all I was ready for the bookmark base which started out as a 2″ x 5-1/2″ strip of Soft Sea Foam Card. Using the Scalloped Tag Topped Punch I began by shaping the one end and adding a ribbon slot. Then I stamped the “have a happy day!” sentiment towards the top using Basic Gray ink.
Next, along the bottom of the strip I added the ‘ground’ using Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends to scribble some horizontal lines.

I could have stopped there but instead decided to add some extra texture using the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder. After placing the bookmark into the folder I ran it through my Cut & Emboss Machine. Even though the card now had a embossed surface, the design really is subtle and the sentiment was still readable.
With that done, I removed the backing from the adhesive sheet on the back of the chick. Then I fixed him onto the bookmark and pressed him firmly into place using the edge of a Bone Folder.
To finish I cut four 6″ pieces of Whisper White twine from the Snail Mail Twine Combo Pack. Then I coloured each one using a different Stampin’ Blends alcohol marker from the Mango Melody and Pumpkin Pie combos. Once dry, I folded the four pieces of twine in half and passed the loops through the slot at the top of the bookmark. Finally I threaded the cut ends through the loops and pulled tight to secure them in place. With that my cute unplanned project was done.
Once again this fun chick image has created a project that makes me smile. What a great way to start a Saturday, don’t you think?
