Today’s 2019 Occasions Catalogue sneak peek project features the Humming Along Stamp Set. There’s no music involved, just large line-art images and three pretty sentiments. For my first project using this set I decided to use the hibiscus flower to make a birthday gift tag.

TAG BASE
I began with a 2″ x 4-1/4″ strip of Whisper White Card for my tag base. I shaped the top quickly and easily using the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch.
To give the tag base some interest I decided to emboss it using the Subtle Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
I started by wiping a Crumb Cake ink pad over both sides on the inside of the embossing folder. Next I placed the tag base inside the folder and put it directly onto the multipurpose platform. Then I added a single cutting pad on top and then ran it forwards and backwards through the Big Shot. When I removed the tag from the embossing folder the texture was nicely accented by the ink.
TIP – When doing this technique I usually ink both sides of the folder. That way when I assemble my project I can decide which side of the embossed piece I like best.
Writing on textured card isn’t ideal, so I cut and punched a second tag from Whisper White Card.
SIMPLE BLACK STAMPING
All the stamping for the tag was done using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
I took the hibiscus flower image and stamped the stem and attached leaf onto some Lemon Lime Twist Card. Next the flower head was stamped onto Powder Pink Card. Then I stamped the stamen from the flower head onto Pineapple Punch Card.
Using coloured card meant that I was able to do very minimal colouring using Stampin’ Write Markers. I added Lemon Lime Twist to the stem and leaf and Mango Melody to the stamen. On the flower head I used Lovely Lipstick, completely filling in the base of the flower, but just adding a few lines coming from the centre of the petals.
With the colouring complete I then used my Paper Snips to cut out the individual sections I needed.
The only piece I was missing was the sentiment from the Humming Along Stamp Set, “Wishing you an amazing birthday”.
I stamped the sentiment onto a piece of Thick Whisper White Card using Tuxedo Black ink. Then using my Big Shot and Magnetic Platform I cut it out with the #3 plain-edge die from the Layering Ovals Framelits (counting from the smallest up).
PUTTING THE TAG TOGETHER
I began by deciding which side of the embossed tag I wanted to be the front. Then using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I attached the plain white tag to the back.

Next I used liquid glue to attach the fussy-cut stem and leaf onto the embossed side of the tag. Then I added the sentiment over the bottom of the stalk.
After that I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to attach the flower head to the tag.
Finally with a little more liquid glue I fixed the stamen to the centre of the flower.
All that was left was for me to ‘paint’ the end of the stamen with a Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush. This gave it a subtle sparkle that catches the light as the tag moves. Then I threaded 4 lengths of Whisper White Baker’s Twine through the slot at the top of the tag and tied them in a simple knot. Job done.
I do love making large layered gift tags. They use very few materials and are a good way to use up scraps. They’re perfect for trying out design ideas or practicing new techniques. What’s more, not only can they be used as tags, they make great embellishments for cards too.
HUMMING ALONG STAMP SET (& COORDINATING DIES)
So here’s a closer look at the Humming Along Stamp Set.

Birthday, get well and thank you are probably the three sentiment most needed during the year. This set has all three plus three line-art images that can be left plain or coloured using any method that takes your fancy.
Stampin’ Up! gave me the Humming Along Stamp Set for free when I was at an event last month. Unfortunately I didn’t get the Hummingbird Framelits Dies that coordinate with this stamp set. Included in the Hummingbird Framelits are dies to cut out the three images from the Humming Along Stamp Set. There’s also an ornate die big enough for the birthday sentiment, and an abstract background die too.
BUNDLE BONUS – The Humming Along Stamp Set and Hummingbird Framelits Dies will be available to purchase separately, or together in a bundle. If you chose to order using the single bundle item number you’ll save 10% off the cost of buying them separately. The stamp set and dies will be available for customers to buy once the Stampin’ Up! 2019 Annual Catalogue goes live on January 3rd.
So that’s it for today, I hope you’ll join me again tomorrow for another sneak peek project.
Product List
Love the Subtle Embossing Folder technique. Definitely going to try it! Your card is beautiful!
Thank you Patricia. That Subtle Dynamic Embossing Folder is a real gem, but the design is so subtle it’s virtually impossible to see in the Stampin’ Up! catalogue. I’m a bit obsessed with it to be honest. If you click on the ‘subtle dynamic embossing folder’ tag at the bottom of the blog post lots more of my projects using it will come up.
I just got mine and I love it. It’s perfect for everything.
Thanks Brenda. I hope they never retire the Subtle Embossing Folder.
