I appear to have become a little obsessed with the new Designer Series Paper (DSP) from Stampin’ Up! I’ve gone from rarely using it to full-one ‘can’t put it down’ mode. When I first saw the Bird Ballad DSP I immediately fell in love with the imagery; birds AND flowers. The colours used are beautiful, bright and cheerful and very summery. So when I saw the blue sky with the birds I immediately thought ‘seagull’, apparently I wasn’t the only one. But after looking at it for a while I noticed the forked tail and thought ‘swallow’. However after a little investigation I would like to introduce you to the swallow-tailed kite.

FLORIDA BIRD
I began with a 2″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Thick Whisper White Card and used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) to attach the DSP to it.
Then I punched the top of the assembled piece using the new Delightful Tag Topper Punch. This punch adds a decorative top and also a 3/8″ hole for the ribbon or twine.
I threaded some Whisper White 5/8″ Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon through the hole and then tied it in a knot.
Next from the Wonderful Moments Stamp Set I took the ‘Dare to Dream’ sentiment. I inked up just the ‘dream’ part with Tuxedo Black ink and stamped it onto a 1/2″ strip of Whisper White Card.

Then to finish the bookmark I attached the sentiment towards the bottom using liquid glue.
So quick and easy, but that DSP makes a stunning bookmark don’t you think?
It was only after I’d finished and taken my photo that I sat down to research what that bird could be. As I Googled, I discovered that it was a swallow-tailed kite that just happens to spend its summers in Florida. So my choice of book for the photo was inspired!
You’ll find other projects I’ve created using the Bird Ballad DSP in these earlier blog posts:
