Oh my goodness it’s cold here in Nova Scotia! Currently minus 11 but with the wind it’s feeling like minus 18! We had more snow overnight so I’ll be out shovelling again later. Oh how I wish I was still enjoying my tropical escape in Florida.
With winter conditions arriving so early this year, spring seems a lifetime away. Its a good job I can bring some pretty flowers into my craft room with Designer Series Paper. Today’s project is a birthday card created as part of my personal challenge for World Card Making Day at the beginning of October.
PRETTY IN PINK
For this project I decided to use a colored card for the card base and mat layers.
I began with a piece of Berry Burst Card that I cut and scored using my Stampin’ Trimmer. Then I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder.
Next I cut a wide strip of the card as a mat for some Designer Series Paper (DSP).
Finally I punched out some of the Berry Burst Card using the Pretty Label Punch to go under the sentiment.
TROPICAL ESCAPE
The Tropical Escape 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (DSP) came next.
First I cut the pink flower design to cover the whole of the front of the card base. Then I fixed it using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow).
Next I selected the white paper with fine Granny Apple Green lines and using liquid glue attached a 2″ wide strip to the strip of Berry Burst Card. The layered piece was then fixed to the front of the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
My last piece of DSP for the card was a 1/4″ strip of the flower design attached down the right side of a layer of Whisper White Card. Then this piece was fixed inside the card base.
ENVELOPE LINER
I wasn’t quite finished with the Tropical Escape DSP though. I love the flower pattern so decided to line a Whisper White Medium Envelope with it. For that I needed my Big Shot and Magnetic Platform and the Beautiful Layers Thinlits Dies.
I laid a 5-5/8″ sheet of the DSP on the cutting plate and then placed the envelope liner die onto it. The die needs to be centred along one of the 5-5/8″ edges and then with another cutting plate on top I rolled through the Big Shot.
The die isn’t quite 5-5/8″” wide so once the piece had been die-cut all I needed to do was use my Paper Snips to cut into each side to separate the excess.
I placed the DSP inside the envelope and folded over the flap to crease the liner. Then I opened the flap and then put a little liquid glue on the back of the DSP flap. Now when I closed the envelope again the DSP was attached in exactly the right place.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GORGEOUS
My sentiment comes from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous Stamp Set and was stamped using Berry Burst Ink onto Whisper White Card. Then I punched it out using the Pretty Label Punch.
Creating a mat layer using a fancy edge punch can be tricky but I had it figured out.
I took the piece I’d punched from Berry Burst Card and cut it horizontally through the middle. Then using liquid glue I attached each half to the back of my sentiment so they extended past the top and bottom edges. This meant that if you looked on the back you’d see a gap in between the two halves, but I wasn’t going to show the back.
Using Stampin’ Dimensionals I added the layered sentiment to the card front.
Finally to complete my project I attached a line of three Pearl Basic Jewels in the top right corner of the card.

That’s a whole lot of stuff, but Stampin’ Up! have set limits on how many of each item will be sold during the promotion. I’ve no doubt that the threshold will be high, but it’s still feasible that some products may sell out before the end of the two days. So my advice to you is to decide today what you want to buy and then place your order as early as possible tomorrow. That’s what I’m going to do.
That will give me something to occupy my mind while I wait for my new products to arrive. I’m hoping the snow won’t delay delivery any longer.
BUNDLE BONUS – The Beautiful Layers Thinlits Dies I used to cut my envelope liner is available by itself. Or you can buy it as part of a bundle with the coordinating Beautiful Promenade Stamp Set. If you use the special bundle code you’ll then save 10% off the cost of buying them separately. I’ve included a link to the bundle at the end of the product list in case you want to look at this in more detail.
