At the end of last week I received my latest group order and in it was a new stamp set just for me. It’s called Stepping Stones and it’s been on my wish list since I first saw it in the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalogue. The set is very simple and contains just six stamps, all quotations. I especially love the size of them and they’ll be perfect for inspirational cards, memory albums and other special projects. To start I decided to use a Stepping Stones sentiment on this bookmark.

STARS

This idea was inspired by the “Follow your own star!” sentiment. I began by cutting a 2″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Starry Sky Card. Then I added a slot at the one end using the Very Best Trio Punch.

Next, using VersaMark ink I stamped the sentiment in the centre of the card strip. I sprinkled the sticky ink with gold powder from the Metallics Embossing Powders pack and tapped off the excess. Then after removing a few stray specks, I melted the rest using my Heat Tool set on 2 (high).

To decorate around the sentiment I could have found some star images in other stamp sets but instead I went looking for some dies. I found exactly what I needed in the Give It A Whirl Dies; two sets of 3 stars with stitched details. To make life easier later I covered the back of some scraps of Gold Foil with pieces of Adhesive Sheet. Then I die-cut 3 sets of 3 stars from these scraps. After peeling the backing paper off the adhesive I fixed 6 of the stars around the sentiment.

Finally I cut 6″ of the 3/8″ Gold Shimmer Ribbon and threaded it through the slot at the top of the bookmark. Then with a little more of the Adhesive Sheet holding it in place my first Stepping Stones project was complete.
