While it’s no secret that I love York Peppermint Patties, I do have other favourite chocolates too. Since moving to Canada I’ve discovered Hershey Nuggets and have not yet managed to eat just one. So it should come as no surprise that today’s project features these in a little triangle box that’s perfect for a table favor or stocking stuffer.
TRIANGLE BOX LAYOUT
Obviously this project all started with the box.
Using my Stampin’ Trimmer I began by cutting a piece of Soft Sea Foam Card 5-1/2″ x 6″.
Next with the long side at the top I scored the card at 1-1/2″, 3″ and 4-1/2″. Then I turned the card so the short side was at the top and scored it at 1-1/2″ and 4″. Finally I folded the card along the scored lines and sharpened the creases with a Bone Folder.
With the 6″ side at the top I then used Paper Snips to cut off two off the corner sections at the right hand edge (shown in blue on the diagram). The centre piece that remained would be my box flap. Then I cut along the red lines shown in the diagram to create the tabs for the box.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL
Now everything was scored, folded and cut I could start on the stamping.
As this is triangle box is quite small I needed a small image to decorate the card, and chose one of the holly images from the Merry Christmas To All Stamp Set.
Using Call Me Clover ink I stamped the holly image randomly over the whole piece. To give me two shades of green, after inking the stamp I sometimes stamped onto scrap paper before stamping onto the card. This is known as ‘stamping off’ or second generation stamping.
Once I’d decorated everything but the tabs I was ready to finish preparing the triangle box for assembly.
I started by shaping the corners of the long flap using the corner rounder option on the Detailed Trio Punch. Then using Paper Snips I trimmed 1/4″ off the end of each of the tabs. Finally I cut from the end of each tab up towards the scored line taking off a slim triangle. This would ensure that the tabs would sit nicely when they were folded in.
Using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I tucked each tab in and secured them to the long side panels. I now had an open box with an extra flap. Then holding the box facing me I pushed in on the sides at the top while folding over the flap. This left soft creases in the side panels and created the triangle box shape.
HERSHEY NUGGET WRAPS
I love making custom wraps for Hershey Nuggets, as I think it adds a lovely finishing touch.
For each nugget I started with a piece of Soft Sea Foam Card 1″ x 3″. Next I stamped a single holly image in the centre of the strip using Call Me Clover ink. Then I simply wrapped the strip around the nugget and with liquid glue fixed one end of the card onto the other. Finally I placed the wrapped nuggets into the triangle box and secured the flap with some Mini Glue Dots.
FINISHING TOUCHES
If I were using these as table favors I could have added a name to the front of the triangle box so it could act as a place name. Instead I decided to use a small sentiment from the Signs of Santa Stamp Set.
I stamped the sentiment onto some Whisper White Card using Call Me Clover ink. Then I took it over to my Big Shot and Magnetic Platform where I used the small label die from the Merry Christmas Thinlits to cut it out.
In the Merry Christmas Thinlits there’s another larger die in the same shape, but it was too big for my purposes. Instead I punched out some Silver Glimmer Paper using a 3/4″ Circle Punch. Then I punched out some Vellum Cardstock with a 1″ Circle Punch.
Using a Stampin’ Dimensional I attached the die-cut sentiment to the Silver Glimmer circle. Then I used liquid glue to fix the Glimmer Paper to the Vellum, and then add it to the front of the triangle box.
This isn’t the first time I’ve created a triangle box for Hershey Nuggets, but it’s been a while. I’ve made these using card as well as Designer Series Paper and I love how I can tailor them to any occasion.
If you’re more of a visual learner here’s a video I created showing the process for making a triangle box. Using the diagram you could make a box any size you need. All you need to remember is that the tabs must be square.
OK So that’s it for today, I hope you’ll join me again tomorrow for another papercraft project.
BUNDLE BONUS – I purchased the Merry Christmas To All Stamp Set and Merry Christmas Thinlits using a single ‘bundle’ item number. This meant I saved 10% off the cost of buying the two items separately. You should note that even though the items will continue to be available, this bundle offer will end on January 2nd, 2019. I’ve included links to the bundle and the individual items so you can look at this in more detail if you wish.
