One of the perks of living in rural Nova Scotia is most definitely the scenery. This morning I was up early and as I looked out the window I was treated to a spectacular sunrise. It actually made the maple trees in our front yard look like they were glowing. Fortunately I quickly snapped a few photos as minutes later the glow was gone. All that was left was a moody sky and more muted autumn colours. That inspired today’s bookmark project using Stampin’ Blends over a DistINKtive stamped image.

NEW BLENDS IDEA
I began by cutting a 2″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Thick Basic White Card. Then I chose the large leafy image from the Nature’s Prints Stamp Set. After tapping the image onto a Wild Wheat ink pad, I lightly ‘stamped-off’ onto some scrap paper to remove a little of the ink. Then using Sponge Daubers I added a some Moody Mauve and Copper Clay ink to the stalk and edges of the leaves. With that done I stamped the multi-coloured image onto the card strip.
Then I simply filled in the background with Boho Blue ink applied with a Blending Brush to represent this morning’s moody sky.
While I quite liked the effect created by this DistINKtive stamp, I wanted the leaves to look a bit more solid. That’s when I had the idea to colour over the leaves with a Stampin’ Blends alcohol marker. However I needed the colour light enough to allow the stamped detail to show through. So in the end I settled on dark Soft Sea Foam and used it to quickly colour over the leaves. That was much better.

Next I chose “You’re on my mind” from the Nature’s Prints Stamp Set and stamped it above the image with Copper Clay ink.
With that done I cut a 2-1/4″ x 6″ piece of Moody Mauve Card. Using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I mounted the stamped layer on top leaving an even border at the sides and bottom. Then I punched a hole at the end using the slot option on the Very Best Trio Punch.

To finish I threaded 6″ of Moody Mauve 3/8″ Textured Ribbon through the slot. Once I’d fixed the ribbon in place with Mini Glue Dots today’s autumn project was complete.
Colouring stamped images with Stampin’ Blends is not a new idea for me. However I can’t remember ever completely colouring over a DistINKtive image. I must say I like the result and will definitely be trying it again on a bigger project.
