Sometimes I feel that I’m not a very imaginative crafter. By that I mean my creativity can be limited as my brain insists on keeping it real. So dogs are various shades of brown or black, leaves tend to be green (unless I’m using autumn colours) etc. So when I saw the sweet little rooster in the Cutest Cows Stamp Set I was determined to try something at least a bit different. The inspiration for my colour scheme came from the realisation that the 2022-2024 InColors® are retiring next month!

CUTEST LITTLE ROOSTER

This quick and easy card was really all about that rooster image so that’s where I started. I cut a 2-1/4″ x 2-3/4″ piece of Basic White Card along with a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece. I also pulled out a Basic White Medium Envelope. Then using Tuxedo Black ink I stamped the rooster in the bottom right corner of each one.

With that done I turned to my Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. From the retiring 2022-2024 InColors I first chose light Starry Sky and coloured the roosters’ combs and wattles. Then from the retiring InColors I chose Parakeet Party. I began by using the dark marker to colour the head of each rooster before using the lighter one on the rest of the body and tail. To make the contrast between the two greens even more pronounced I went over the heads with the dark marker again.

Finally I took Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends and coloured the beaks with the dark one and scribbled some ground below the roosters’ feet. Then just because it was there I scribbled a little with the lighter Daffodil Delight marker too.

Before putting away the Cutest Cows Stamp Set I needed a sentiment and chose “It’s your special day”. Using Tuxedo Black ink I stamped it in the space above the rooster on the smallest Basic White panel.

SIMPLE FINISH

Keeping the colour scheme simple I cut a 2-3/8″ x 2-7/8″ piece of Starry Sky Card. Then I cut a 2-1/2″ x 3″ piece of Tranquil Tide Card (another of the retiring 2022-2024 InColors). Using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I mounted the small Basic White layer onto the Starry Sky piece, and then glued these to the Tranquil Tide layer.

For a little sparkle I cut two pieces of Starry Sky 1/8″ Metallic Woven Ribbon. However rather than tying a bow, I wrapped the pieces across the bottom left and top right corners before securing the ends on the back with a little Tear & Tape.

All I needed now was an A2 card base so using my Paper Trimmer I cut a 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ piece of Thick Basic White Card. Then with the long side at the top I used the scoring blade to score the card at 4-1/4″. After folding the card along the scored line I sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder. Next, using liquid glue I fixed the larger of the two stamped Basic White layers on the inside of the card base.

To finish I put Stampin’ Dimensionals on the back of the ribbon-wrapped layers and mounted them in the centre of the card front. Job done.
