It’s September and already shades of autumn are starting to reveal themselves in the trees and hedgerows. On Wednesday customers will finally be able to order from the Stampin’ Up! September to December Mini Catalogue, as well as a new range of scrapbooking products. So for this week’s simple Sunday project I wanted to bring you another sneak peek. Today I chose the Winterly Treetops Stamp Set. It’s part of the Nests of Winter suite that also includes coordinating dies, 12” x 12” Designer Series Paper, an embossing folder, linen thread and embellishments.

QUICK COLOURING
I began by cutting a 2″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Thick Basic White Card and chose “A friend like you brings me happiness” from the Winterly Treetops Stamp Set. After stamping the sentiment on the right-hand side of the card strip with Pebbled Path ink, I added the single bird image to the left.
With the stamping done I began to colour using Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. First I scribbled some light Moody Mauve over the centre of the bird’s breast. Then I immediately went over the whole area using light Gray Granite, making the Moody Mauve area much more subtle. Using dark Gray Granite I coloured the bird’s wings and his legs. After a minute or two I picked up the dark Gray Granite and went over the beak and parts of the wings again to make them a little darker. For the berries I used light and dark Poppy Parade, then switched to light and dark Crumb Cake for the branch.
Now all I needed was to add a tassel and reached for my Take Your Pick tool with the paper piercer attachment. After measuring the centre point at the right-hand end I pierced a hole through the card. To make it as large as possible I made sure to push the full shaft of the piercer through the hole. Next I cut 12″ of Pebbled Path twine from the 2023-2025 In Color® Jute Trim pack. I folded it in half and threaded the loop half-way through the hole, then I tied the twine in a simple knot. After trimming the ends to make them even I unravelled the twine. Finally I used a nail brush to brush out the strands to make a fluffier looking tassel and with that my simple project was done.

Some of the dies also coordinate with images on the Nests of Winter 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper (DSP) pack. More about that another day.
