Oh my goodness it’s too hot to do anything, and it’s forecast to get worse over the next few days. However I’ve used an old trick of shutting all the windows first thing and drawing the curtains. It really does make a difference to how it feels indoors and costs absolutely nothing. When the weather’s like this I can’t even concentrate on crafting. So while I start planning for a craft fair in September instead, here’s a belated birthday card I made last week using the new Sweet Foliage Stamp Set.

SIMPLY SWEET FOLIAGE

The Sweet Foliage Stamp Set one of the new items in the Stampin’ Up! Online Exclusives range. It’s actually just one large stamp, big enough to cover a full card front, and I wanted to take full advantage of that. So I cut two 4″ x 5-1/4″ pieces of Basic White Card and pulled out a Basic White Medium Envelope. Using Basic Black ink I stamped the image over the whole of one of the Basic White layers. Then I covered all but a 1″ strip down one long side of the other Basic White layer with scrap paper before stamping the image on the rest to create a border. Finally I stamped the image over the flap of the envelope.

To keep this card really simple I decided to use just one Stampin’ Blends alcohol marker for my colouring. I chose the light Shaded Spruce and using the bullet tip drew a line down one side of every leaf, leaving the other half white.

Now the colouring was complete I cut a 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ piece of Thick Basic White Card for my A2 card base. With the long side at the top I scored it at 4-1/4″, folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder. Then I glued the layer with the leafy border on the inside.

Next I cut a 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ piece of Shaded Spruce Card and glued it onto the card front leaving an even border on all sides. That was followed by the layer I’d completely covered with the Sweet Foliage image.

For my sentiment I turned to the Phrases & Frames Stamp Set. I cut a 1″ x 4″ strip of Basic White Card and stamped “I didn’t forget your birthday; I just wanted it to last longer” with Basic Black ink. Then I cut a 1-1/8 x 4″ strip of Shaded Spruce Card and attached the sentiment leaving an even border at the top and bottom. Finally using Stampin’ Dimensionals I mounted the sentiment onto the card front, 1-1/8″ from the top. With that my simple card was complete.
