It seems like every time I look at my stamp sets I see another link to the new catalogues. Yesterday it was free Lily Impressions paper and the Lilypad Lake Stamp Set and Lakeside Dies. Today I have something for all the fishermen and women out there.
I was looking at a fairly plain, brown design in the Tropical Oasis 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper (DSP) pack. It has a very subtle pattern that reminded me of fabric. I thought it would be even better if it were embossed and that’s how today’s project began.

COASTAL WEAVE
I began by embossing the paper using the Coastal Weave 3D Embossing Folder. Then using Multipurpose Liquid Glue I mounted it onto some So Saffron Card, before adding it to the front of a Mini Pizza Box.
Then in keeping with the natural/woven theme I cut a short piece of the 5/16″ Braided Burlap Trim. So far so good.
Then I began to look for a stamp set that would work with the colours and textures I had on my desk. It was then I remembered the Best Catch Stamp Set and coordinating Catch Of The Day Dies.
Initially I thought I’d use the basket image but instead I stamped the hat onto a scrap of Sahara Sand Card with Soft Suede ink. Then I cut it using the coordinating die.
Next came the bullrushes / cattails, die-cut from a piece of Pear Pizzazz Card. While the die-cut piece had an interesting shape, it didn’t really have any definition. So I added some depth by using a piece of Stampin’ Sponge to lightly tap some Pear Pizzazz ink over the surface. Then I simply pressed the top of the bullrushes / cattails onto the surface of the Soft Suede ink pad. That was much better.
FISHERMEN / FISHERWOMEN
With that done I used liquid glue to fix the bullrushes / cattails to the front of the pizza box. Then the piece of burlap trim was added using Tear & Tape Adhesive.

Now all I needed was a sentiment so I went back to the Best Catch Stamp Set. Of course this set was primarily designed for masculine projects but I wanted something more gender neutral. So I decided to alter the “For you, Dad” sentiment to make it work for fishermen and fisherwomen.
Altering this sentiment was an easy process. I did my best to ink up the “For you” part of the sentiment using Soft Suede ink. Then just to be sure I hadn’t got any ink on the comma or “Dad”, I covered that part of the stamp rubber with some sellotape. Once that was done I stamped the sentiment onto a strip of So Saffron Card.
To complete my project I added the sentiment to the pizza box with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Then with a couple more Dimensionals I added the die-cut hat and I was done.
Now all I need to do now is decide what to put in it…
