Another Special Moments Idea

February 4, 2022 Leave a Comment

We all have a friend who’s completely daft.  Sometimes more than one.  They’re the one who keeps you laughing with their ideas and antics.  Who pull silly faces and say silly things, and without whom life would be very boring indeed.  So when I was asked to create a cover for a pocket photo album this was my brief.  I found the perfect sentiment in the free Sale-A-Bration stamp set called Special Moments and, with the addition of an image from Senior Years, this is what I came up with.

Create this fun pocket photo album cover for a friend using the Senior Years and free Special Moments Stamp Sets from Stampin' Up! #papercraftwithme

SPECIAL MOMENTS

I began with a 3-1/2″ x 5″ piece of Very Vanilla Card and a Tuxedo Black ink pad. From the Senior Years Stamp Set I chose the lady image and stamped her on the left side of the card.

Next, from the Special Moments Stamp Set I chose “where would I be without a friend like you?” Then using Tuxedo Black ink I stamped the sentiment in the top right of the Very Vanilla layer. Now it looked like the lady was speaking and gesturing towards her comment.

To add colour to the image I decided to keep it simple with dry watercolour pencils. Stampin’ Up! has two packs of these and I started with Watercolor Pencils Assortment 2. After making sure they were all nice and sharp I set to work.

First I used Flirty Flamingo for her skin, remembering to colour halfway across the lens on the right-hand side of her glasses. Then on her legs I used Crushed Curry, followed by Cajun Craze. Her shoes and skirt are Night of Navy, with Coastal Cabana for her top. Next I used Cherry Cobbler to add some colour to her open mouth and earrings. Going back to her glasses I added a dark line of Balmy Blue across the tops of the frames. Then I added a light touch of Crushed Curry to give the illusion of glass in the frames.

Now I pulled out the original Watercolor Pencils pack as I wanted Basic Black. Using this pencil I coloured in her hair and added a little shading around the top of her skirt and just below the hemline.

Then I finished off the scene by scribbling Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry and Basic Black on the ‘ground’ using the side of the pencils.

SIMPLE LAYERS

With the image and sentiment layer done all I needed now was to create the layers.

To do this I first had to remove the original inserts from the back and front pockets on the 4″ x 6″ pocket photo album. Then I measured the card pieces so I could cut new ones from Basic Black Card. These turned out to be 4-5/8″ x 6-1/8″. While I had the Basic Black Card to hand I also cut a piece 3-5/8″ x 5-1/8″.

That just left the background for me to choose and I couldn’t resist another free Sale-A-Bration product, the stunning Simply Marbleous 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (DSP) Pack. From the six different colour options in the pack I opted for the grey sheets. Then for the back and front cover I cut two pieces, each 4-1/2″ x 6″.

To complete my project I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow). After gluing the DSP to the larger Basic Black layers I slid one of the assembled pieces into the back pocket of the album. Then I mounted the Very Vanilla layer onto the smaller Basic Black piece before attaching it to the other background. Once these final layers were slipped into the front pocket I was done.

I’m so happy with how this project turned out and I hope the person who requested it is too. I can just imagine the fun of filling the album with daft photos of the friend, and then seeing their response when they receive it.
