While Christmas Day is now over there’s still quite a bit of celebrating to do in the next week or so. Boxing Day is often an extension of the Christmas festivities. Then I have my daughter’s birthday, as well as New Year to look forward to. So with that in mind I wanted to bring you another ‘idea’ project that you might find useful. It’s a fun way to dress up a wine or other bottle you might gift to a host, using simple layering with some ribbon and embellishments.

LAYERED OVER THE LABEL
I began by measuring the height of the label on my wine bottle and checking whether it was level. Fortunately this one is level so I only needed my paper to be about 1/2″ taller than the label. Had it been skewed I would have cut my paper a bit taller to ensure it would still cover the whole label when I applied the wrap. Then from the Texture Chic 12″ x 12″ Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP) I chose a patten covered in gold spots which seemed ideal for celebrating New Year. After cutting the wide strip I wrapped it around the bottle and glued it to itself. This would allow me to slide the wrap if it needed adjusting later.
Next I cut a piece of Soft Suede Card about 2″ narrower than the DSP wrap. Then using the scoring blade on my Paper Trimmer I scored down the long sides at 1/4″ x and 1/2″. Once that was done I wrapped the card around the bottle and glued that into place.
My last piece was a simple length of Gold 3/8″ Shimmer Ribbon wrapped around the bottle and secured at the front with Tear & Tape Adhesive. Ribbon joins can be messy so this way I could hide it under the final layer.
CELEBRATING YOU
For my sentiment I looked at a few different stamp sets but in the end settled on Celebrating You. Using VersaMark ink I stamped “The best is yet to come” onto some Thick Basic White Card. Then I sprinkled the sticky ink with gold embossing powder from the Metallics Embossing Powders pack. After tapping off the excess powder I removed a few stray specks, before melting the rest with my Heat Tool set on 2 (high).

So far there were lots of straight lines on my design so I decided I wanted the sentiment label to have some curves. From the Seasonal Labels Dies I chose the smallest of the three nesting dies and die-cut the sentiment. Then using liquid glue I pressed the sentiment over the ribbon ends as planned.
For a little extra shine on the sentiment I added three small gold embellishments from the Festive Pearls pack.
Finally I decided to decorate the bottle collar with some more of the gold 3/8″ Shimmer Ribbon. To make things easier I began by wrapping some ribbon around the collar and securing it with Tear & Tape Adhesive. Then I tied a separate double bow with long tails and attached it to the wrapped ribbon with more Tear & Tape. With that my bottle gift was ready to go.
I have to say that I prefer to present a decorated bottle rather than gift it in a bottle bag which will be discarded. This way the bottle still looks pretty when open. What do you think?
