It may be nearly Christmas but that’s not the only reason I’m crafting. In my family there’s quite a few birthdays in December and several of them are right around the 25th. As the years have gone on I’ve discovered more and more people for whom the same is true. So it seemed only right that I intersperse my Christmas projects with birthday ones. That doesn’t mean I have to put away my ‘Christmas’ stamp sets though. Today’s project was created using the retiring Delivering Cheer Stamp Set and the result was a very pretty birthday gift tag.

BIG TAG BASE
Having made a few projects using the Delivering Cheer Stamp Set I knew I needed a large area for the tag base. As I went to my dies I had a vague idea of using an oval or something similar, especially if it was a die I haven’t used in a while. However almost immediately I noticed the Nature’s Thoughts Dies. and remembered it had a large die with decorative pierced edge. It was perfect, so I used it to cut out some Thick Very Vanilla Card.
To turn the large rectangle into a tag all I needed was the oval hole option on the Detailed Trio Punch.
Now I was ready to stamp. From the Delivering Cheer Stamp Set I chose two images; the legs with the skirt and the hands with the gifts. For the actual stamping I decided to keep it really simple and use Tuxedo Black ink.
But then I thought it would be fun to do a little paper-piecing. So from the 2020-2022 In Color 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (DSP) Assortment I chose a plaid design in Magenta Madness. Next, using the Tuxedo Black ink I stamped the skirt part of the image onto the DSP. Then using Paper Snips I cut out just the skirt.
After reinking the stamp I stamped the legs and skirt at the bottom of the tag base. Then I flipped the tag over and stamped “To:” and “From:” from the Delivering Cheer Stamp Set on the back.
Things were starting to come together nicely and now I needed the pile of presents. Using Tuxedo Black ink I stamped the image onto a scrap of Thick Very Vanilla Card. With that it was time to do a little colouring using Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers.
For the arms and legs I decided to use the Bronze marker, with the Ivory one on her shoes and one of the gifts.
DELIVERING GIFTS
I wanted the rest of the gifts to be a combination of pinks and purples and chose Flirty Flamingo, Melon Mambo, Fresh Freesia and Highland Heather. Then once everything was coloured I cut out the gifts and arms using Paper Snips.

At last I was ready to start putting the pieces together and started by using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) to attach the DSP skirt over the one stamped on the tag. Then I glued the pile of gifts and arms into place.
Sticking with my pink and purple colour scheme I chose some Highland Heather 1/2″ Grosgrain Ribbon and threaded it through the hole at the top of the tag. To keep it in place I wrapped some Very Vanilla twine around the ribbon and tied it in a simple bow.
Of course without a sentiment this gift tag could be for any occasion, and the sentiments in the Delivering Cheer Stamp Set didn’t include a birthday one. So instead I found a “Happy Birthday” sentiment in the Hey Birthday Chick Stamp Set. Using Tuxedo Black ink again I stamped the sentiment onto a scrap of Thick Very Vanilla Card. Then after cutting around it with Paper Snips I added it to the tag using Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals and I was finished.
I’m so pleased with how this big birthday tag turned out and I love the colours I ended up using. You’d never guess this started with a ‘Christmas’ stamp set. What do you think?
