Today’s project is the result of another embossing experiment, a rediscovery of something from way back. It all started when I made a gift cracker to hold some paper money. After using the Cracker & Treat Box Dies to cut out the piece for the cracker I was left with some small diamond-shaped scraps. I’ve collected quite a few sets of these diamond shapes from various projects but never actually got around to using them. So today I decided to make something useful that also turned into a technique reminder.

CROSSHATCH EMBOSSING
I all started with the 10 diamond-shaped pieces left over from a piece from the Fresh As A Daisy 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper (DSP) pack. As I sat playing with the pieces I realised that I could use all 10 to create a geometric design the was the perfect size to decorate a bookmark. So I cut a 2″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Thick Basic White Card and attached the them using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow).
Next I added a hole at one end using the slot option on the Very Best Trio Punch. But as I looked at the card strip I decided it was still a little plain. That’s when I reached for the Crosshatch 3D Embossing Folder (one of the three included in the Basics 3D Embossing Folders Pack).

After running the card strip through the machine I remembered that when you emboss layered pieces it presses the layers tightly together. Now instead of having diamond-shaped pieces on top of the card they were almost part of it. This wasn’t new but something I’d completely forgotten.
From there I cut 5″ of Gold & Vanilla 3/8″ Satin Edged Ribon and threaded it through the slot. Once secured in place with a little Tear & Tape Adhesive my bookmark reminder was complete.
Having rediscovered the idea of creating faux-inlay designs I now have lots of project ideas that are much more elaborate. I’ll be sure to show you the results another day. But my now question is… have you ever tried using an embossing folder to press multiple layers together? Please leave a comment below and share you experiences.
