When I first glanced at the Let’s Go Fishing 12” x 12” Designer Series Paper (DSP) in the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalogue I wasn’t excited. It’s great if you’re a fan of fishing, or know people who are, but that’s definitely not me. Then when Stampin’ Up! had their DSP sale last month I took a closer look. It was only then I realised that while there are a variety of fishing-themed designs, there’s a lot of others that aren’t. Take this pattern that reminds me of denim…

LET’S IGNORE FISHING
As soon as I saw the ‘denim’ design I knew it would be perfect for a gender-neutral card. So I began by cutting a 2-1/4″ x 6″ piece. Using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I attached the DSP to the flap of a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope. Then I trimmed off the excess with my Paper Snips, using the edge of the flap as a guide.
Next I cut a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Very Vanilla Card as well as a 3/4″ x 4″ piece of the denim paper. Using liquid glue I attached the DSP along one short edge of the card. Then I cut a 1/8″ x 4″ piece of Boho Blue Card and glued that up against the cut edge of the DSP.
For my card base I cut and scored some Misty Moonlight Card. After folding it along the scored line I sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder. Now I could add the decorated Very Vanilla layer to the inside.
Originally I’d planned to cover the card front with the denim paper but actually I wanted to use less of it. You see I really liked this pattern and wanted to make it last as long as possible. I was more than happy to ignore the fishing-themed design on the back. So finally I cut two pieces, one 2-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ and the other 3/4″ x 4-1/4″.
BIRTHDAY LAYER
Now I had all the denim paper cut I just needed some mat layers for them So I cut two pieces of Boho Blue Card, one 2-5/8″ x 4-1/4″ and the second one 7/8″ x 4-1/4″. Using liquid glue I mounted the two pieces of DSP onto these Boho Blue Mats so each revealed a 1/8″ strip of card at one end. With that done I glued the larger assembled piece up against the left side of the card front, leaving the smaller piece to go up against the right-hand side.

All I needed now was a bold birthday sentiment and for that I turned to the Celebrate With Tags Stamp Set. Using Misty Moonlight ink I stamped the sentiment onto some Very Vanilla Card.
With what was a fairly plain and simple design so far I decided that the sentiment layer should be a little fancier. So I went looking for the perfect sized die with an interesting detail. I found exactly what I needed in the Labels Aglow Dies. Once cut, I attached the sentiment to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals, spanning the gap between the two denim layers. With that my birthday card was complete.
Looking back I can’t believe that I waited so long to get this paper. As well as this denim pattern there’s lots of other great designs that aren’t fish related. For more projects created using the Let’s Go Fishing DSP see these earlier blog posts:
