It must be my age but time is flying faster than ever. How else can I explain why I completely missed that today is Mother’s Day in Canada? In the UK, Mother’s Day (or Mothering Sunday) is celebrated on the fourth Sunday in Lent, which is most often in March. Of course my daughter in the UK goes by that calendar and we celebrated it then. So instead of Mother’s Day, this week’s simple Sunday project is a cute thank you card created using the Mischievous Mice (Host) Stamp Set.

MISCHIEVOUS MICE
When I sat down to make this card I didn’t really have a fixed idea for the design. I just knew that it was about time I got the Mischievous Mice (Host) Stamp Set inky. So from the 3 images in the set I chose the one holding the pencil.
First I stamped the image onto a 2-3/4″ x 3″ piece of Very Vanilla Card using Basic Gray ink. Then I coloured the mouse body with light and dark Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. As I was thinking about the tail I knew I didn’t want it to be brown. So instead I used a dark Petal Pink Stampin’ Blends marker, before going over it with light Crumb Cake. The combination of colours gave me exactly the effect I was looking for. Then I finished off the mouse with dark Petal Pink just inside the ear.
Next I thought that the pencil needed to provide a bright contrast and immediately the new colour Parakeet Party popped into my head. Sadly I don’t yet have the 2022-2024 In Color Stampin’ Blends, but I do have the Stampin’ Write Markers. So using the brush tip of the Parakeet Party marker I coloured in the shaft of the pencil. Then for the tip I used the light Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends, and finished off with light Petal Pink for the eraser.
Of course I simply had to use the same image for my coordinating feature, so now I needed to stamp two more mice. I began by stamping the image in the bottom right corner of a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Very Vanilla Card. Then I stamped the mouse on the front of a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope. This time, instead of colouring everything I chose to colour just the two pencils.
QUICK FINISH
With the colouring complete I only had to cut and assemble the layers. I started by using my Paper Trimmer to cut and score some Crumb Cake Card. Then I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder to create a card base.
Next I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) to fix the larger Very Vanilla piece to the inside of the card base.

Before adding the smaller piece I remembered that I needed a sentiment and for that I went back to the Mischievous Mice Stamp Set. From the 5 sentiments I chose the simple “thanks”. Then using Basic Gray ink I stamped it just below the mouse image.
Now going back to my original bright contrast idea I cut a 3″ x 3-1/4″ piece of Parakeet Party Card. Then using liquid glue I mounted the mouse layer on top. Next I wrapped some Linen Thread around the bottom of the layers and tied it in a simple bow. Finally, using Stampin’ Dimensionals I added the assembled piece to the card front and my project was complete.
I have to say I love how this project turned out, and that bright pop of colour really is quite striking. I think I should make a whole set of these using the rest of the 2022-2024 In Colors. What do you think?
