Today is going to be one of those days when I get very little done. I woke up with backache and it’s making it hard to concentrate on anything for more than a few minutes at a time. So I’ll take some painkillers and not put too much pressure on myself to get things done. Hopefully it will ease up as the day wears on, but in the meantime I wanted to show you something I’ve been working on… It’s a masculine makeover for the Celebrate Today Magnet Board Kit.

If you saw my original post about this magnet board kit you’ll know that it was quite light and feminine with flowers and a butterfly. So I wanted this one to be quite different. I began by changing the background sheet from the original light grey to this striking blue design from the Sun Prints 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper (DSP) pack.
Also from the Sun Prints DSP I found a delicate Sahara Sand design that was a nice contrast to the bold blue background. I decided this would be perfect to makeover the pencil box I’d created when I first assembled this kit. So I cut a 3-1/4″ x 7″ piece and wrapped it around the box. Then I fixed the edges together to create a removable sleeve. Finally, on top of the sleeve I added “you’re stronger than you know” popped out from the specialty sheet in the He’s the Man 12″ x 12″ DSP pack.

DREAM POCKET
Next I chose the blue spotty design from the Sun Prints pack to make a new storage pocket. In the original kit there were two of these pockets but before making them up I traced around one of them onto some thick card. I labelled this up as a template so now I just had to trace around it onto the new paper and cut it out.
I must be honest and say that I really didn’t fancy fussy cutting the scalloped top. So instead I cut across it in a straight line about 1/2″ beyond the traced top. Then I pulled out the Penned Flowers Dies and used the edge die to add the scalloped shape. Finally I folded the paper and assembled it as before.

The “dream” sentiment is actually one of the stickers from the Magnet Board kit. I discovered that the oval die from the All That Dies set was the perfect size to make a mat layer for the sticker. So I cut it from Pacific Point Card and fixed the sticker on top. Then I added the layered label to the front of the new pocket with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
MAGNET DETAILS
As I began to think about the layout of these new pieces on the magnet board I decided they needed a little pop of colour. So I went back to the scalloped edge die and used it on a 1/2″ x 6″ strip of Pacific Point Card. Then I wrapped the scalloped piece around the top of the box sleeve. It wasn’t actually long enough to go around the whole sleeve, so I stuck it just on the front and sides. After all the back part isn’t seen anyway.
Next I glued the the wavy ‘scrap’ part of the die-cut strip along the bottom of the Dream pocket. Finally from the He’s the Man 12″ x 12″ Specialty DSP I popped out the large car image. Then I added it to the bottom of the pocket with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Now all I had to do was add the pocket and box to the board using the magnet clips from the original kit.
With the complicated part of the magnet board makeover done I had just a few finishing touches to make.
From the original kit pieces I found a couple of 3″ x 4″ list-style cards. Then from the kit stickers I chose “Create this” and “Make time for” and added them to the cards. I also took one of the “important” stickers and stuck that onto one of the magnet clips.

That just left a couple of circular magnets I previously added to the board. The flower stickers I’d used then no longer fitted with the new design but I had one last detail to add… From the He’s the Man DSP die-cut sheet I popped out one of the hand images. Then I stuck that onto the round magnet and now I had a movable pointer! At last with everything in place my Magnet Board makeover was complete.
OK that’s all from me for today, I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing the revamped Magnet Board as much as I enjoyed making it.
You’ll find the ‘almost as designed’ magnet board in my blog post Magnet Board fun and function.
