There’s just three more days to go until we find out which products are being retired by Stampin’ Up! Every year they retire most, if not all, their patterned paper to make way for new designs. So my plan today is to review all the Designer Series Paper (DSP) I still have left. My regular readers will know that I hate to throw away even the smallest pieces and I’m definitely not alone. With that in mind this week’s simple Sunday project was designed around a 1” x 4-1/4” scrap.

SIMPLY ELEGANT PAPER
The first paper pack I picked up was the Simply Elegant 12″ x 12″ Specialty Designer Series Paper. This has a lovely Very Vanilla, Basic Gray and Basic Black colour scheme, with copper, gold and silver foiling. The 1″ x 4-1/4″ strip I found had no foiling but it’s very pretty all the same.
I began by trimming a strip of Smoky Slate Card to 1-1/4″ x 4-1/4″. Then using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I mounted the paper strip down the centre. Next I cut a 2″ x 4-1/4″ piece of Very Vanilla Card and glued the layered strips down the centre of that. Finally using the Fancy Tag Topper Punch I shaped the top of the assembled piece and added a ribbon slot.
With that done, I cut 6″ of black twine from the Baker’s Twine Essentials Pack. Then I threaded it through the hole at the top of the tag base and tied it in a simple knot.
For the sentiment I turned to the One Happy Family Stamp Set. Using Basic Gray ink I stamped “Happy birthday” onto a 1/2″ x 2″ strip of Very Vanilla Card. Next I cut a 5/8″ x 2″ strip of Smoky Slate Card and mounted the sentiment on top with liquid glue. Finally I added the assembled sentiment to the tag base with Stampin’ Dimensionals. In next to no time my simple gender neutral gift tag was was complete.
I love the look of this gift tag and it’s a layout that would work for lots of different occasions. Simply grab a scrap of pretty paper and some coordinating card and get creating!
