There is something quite wonderful about the Simply Elegant 12″ x 12″ Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP). It has some lovely gender neutral patterns and I love the Basic Black, Basic Gray and Very Vanilla colour palette. But the star of the pack has to be the amazing foiled designs on the reverse of each sheet. The combination of gold, silver and copper may sound a bit over the top, but it works. And as I discovered today you don’t need a lot to create a simply elegant gift tag.

ELEGANT BLACK AND GREY
When it comes to choosing colour schemes I often look to the Designer Series Paper (DSP) packs for my inspiration. After all if the professional artists at Stampin’ Up! think a combination works, who am I to disagree? So for the base of my tag I decided to go with Basic Gray, it’s dark but not boring.
I began by cutting a 2″ x 4-1/4″ piece of Basic Gray Card and also some Basic White the same size. Next, using a Stampin’ Spritzer filled with clean water I lightly misted the Basic Gray piece. Then I put it inside the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder and ran it through my Cut & Emboss Machine.
TIP – misting the card with clean water allows the fibres to stretch rather than crack when being embossed.
Once the Basic Gray Card was dry I attached it to the Basic White piece using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow). Then I shaped the top and added a ribbon slot in one go using the Fancy Tag Topper Punch.
Now I needed the sentiment and for that I pulled out the Elegantly Said Stamp Set. This set is a combination of beautiful images and sentiments and I have a feeling I’ll be using a lot. For today’s tag I chose “Wishing you a wonderful birthday”.
I started with a 1″ x 2″ piece of Basic Black Card and stamped the sentiment onto it using VersaMark ink. Next I sprinkled the sticky ink with silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder from the Metallics pack. After tapping off the excess, I removed some stray specks and then melted the rest with my Heat Tool set on 2 (high). Finally, once the embossing had cooled, I attached the sentiment across the centre of the tag with liquid glue.
SIMPLY ELEGANT FLOWERS
Now I was ready to create the decoration and for that I needed the Simply Elegant DSP pack. I chose the sheet that was covered in pretty flowers in gold, silver and copper foil. This pattern is great because the individual floral elements are close together but separate. This meant I could easily fussy cut them using my Paper Snips.

I chose two different sprays fairly close to one edge of the paper (to save waste). Then as I was cutting I left a thin area of the black background around them. This was especially helpful when working around the narrow stems.
Once I’d finished cutting all I had to do was attach the pieces to the tag with Stampin’ Dimensionals. As luck would have it as I pulled out my standard Stampin’ Dimensionals a sheet of Mini Black Stampin’ Dimensionals fell onto my desk. Of course, white Dimensionals would stick out like a sore thumb, but black would blend in perfectly!
So using the black Dimensionals I attached both of the flower pieces to the tag, above and below the sentiment.
Finally I cut a piece of silver twine from the gold and silver Simply Elegant Trim pack. Then I threaded it through the top of the tag, tied it in a simple knot and I was done.
Oh my goodness, elegant doesn’t capture how beautiful this gift tag really is. I love it! Now to make a card to go with the gift tag.
FREE SHIPPING
On 24th June (tomorrow) Stampin’ Up! is offering fee shipping on all orders over $65CAD. It’s a great opportunity to stock up on basic supplies like card, envelopes, ink and adhesives. But for me it means I can use my crafting budget to get more products instead of using some of it to pay for shipping! What’s more, if there’s no shipping charges I’m not paying tax on the shipping either. That sounds good to me.

There’s just one thing I need to point out… Stampin’ Up! days and times are all Mountain Time. So if like me you live in Nova Scotia, the free shipping will actually start at 3.00am Atlantic Time on June 24th and run for 24 hours through to 2.59am on June 25th. Not that most of us will be up in those wee small hours, but I thought I should clarify that just in case.
With that in mind, here’s the list of products I used for today’s project. Maybe there’s something that’s made it onto your wish list…

BUNDLE BONUS – I bought the Elegantly Said Stamp Set as a bundle with the coordinating Elegant Tag Punch (not used today). Buying the two items using the single ‘bundle’ item number meant I saved 10% off the cost of buying the same items separately.
