A week or two ago I created a fun bookmark with an apple pie image using the Sweets & Treats Stamp Set. For today’s project I went back to the same set but this time for the cupcake. Little images like this make great focal points for simple cards but today I went even smaller. So here’s a 3″ x 3″ card turned into a gift tag with the addition of a punch and twine. It’s a great way to practice #simplestamping ideas.

FOLDED GIFT TAG
I began with my Paper Trimmer and cut a 3″ x 6″ piece of Basic White Card before scoring it at 3″. Then I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder.
Next I placed the open card under the oval hole option on the Detailed Trio Punch with the scored line a little to the right of the centre mark. Then when I punched I had a small hole near to the crease on the back of the tag.
To add some subtle sparkle I cut a 2-1/2″ x 2-1/2″ piece of Gold Shimmer Vellum. Then using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I attached the vellum to the front of the tag. But by keeping the glue away from the edges of the vellum I planned to hide the adhesive under the final layer.
For that layer I went with Basic White Card again, this time cutting a 2-1/4″ x 2-1/4″ square. However before I added it to the tag I needed to do some simple stamping.
SWEETS & TREATS
From the Sweets & Treats Stamp Set I took the “happy birthday” sentiment. Then using Tuxedo Black ink I stamped it towards the bottom of the Basic White layer. Once done I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to add the layer onto the Shimmer Vellum.
Next, I took the cupcake image and stamped it onto a scrap of Basic White Card with Tuxedo Black ink. I also stamped the bottom of the cupcake onto the sparkly side of a scrap of the Gold Shimmer Vellum.
After setting the vellum aside (the ink would take longer to dry on this piece) I turned my attention to the first cupcake image. Using Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers I coloured the top of the cake with light Cinnamon Cider. Then I coloured the frosting with light and dark Flirty Flamingo and left the base of the cupcake white.
It was at this point I made a decision about the twine for the tag and I cut a 6″ piece of white twine from the Baker’s Twine Essentials Pack, Then using the brush tip of the dark Flirty Flamingo Stampin’ Blends marker I coloured the twine and set it aside.

With that done I used Paper Snips to cut out the complete cupcake followed by just the cupcake wrapper part from the Shimmer Vellum.
Using a thin layer of liquid glue over the whole of the vellum cupcake wrapper piece I attached it to the whole cupcake image. This would ensure that there would be no tell-tale glue marks visible through the vellum. Finally, using Stampin’ Dimensionals I attached the completed cupcake to the tag front.
Then after threading the custom-coloured twine through the hole and tying it in a simple knot my tag was done.
I really love the simplicity of this tag design and especially how the Shimmer Vellum adds a wow with very little effort. Have you tried the Shimmer Vellum yet? Let me know what you think of it in the comments below.
