I know customers can get a little frustrated when Stampin’ Up! products go out of stock and can’t be ordered. It frustrates me too! But I’ve been really pleased to see that many of them have come back earlier than expected. The O Holy Night 12” x 12” Designer Series Paper (DSP) is one of those items and I thought I’d celebrate by making a card. However although the paper is most definitely designed with Christmas in mind, I wanted to demonstrate that it’s also great for birthdays as well.

O HOLY NIGHT BACKGROUND
In the O Holy Night DSP pack I found this striking fan background pattern that I decided would be perfect for a gender-neutral birthday card. So I started by cutting a 6″ x 6″ piece that would be enough to decorate the front and inside of the card, as well as the envelope.
From the 6″ x 6″ piece I first cut a 2-1/4″ x 6″ strip. Using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) I attached the paper to the flap of a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope. Then I trimmed off the excess with Paper Snips, using the edge of the flap as a guide.
Next I cut a 3/4″ x 6″ strip of the DSP and trimmed it down to 5-1/4″. After cutting a 4″ x 5-1/4″ layer of Very Vanilla Card I glued the DSP strip along one long edge and set it aside.
Finally from what was left I cut a 3″ x 4-1/4″ piece and put the rest aside for another project. Then I cut a 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″ piece of Copper Clay Card and mounted the DSP on top.
By this point I’d decided to cut my A2 card base from Thick Very Vanilla Card. After scoring the card at 4-1/4″ I folded it along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder. With that done I glued the decorated Very Vanilla layer on the inside with the DSP at the bottom.
BOLD BIRTHDAY
Next I needed a birthday sentiment and I wanted it to be bold. So I pulled out the Celebrate with Tags Stamp Set and an Early Espresso ink pad. For the sentiment strip I cut a 1″ x 4-1/4″ strip of Thick Very Vanilla Card and stamped the “Happy birthday” towards the right-hand end. Then I glued it to the layered DSP panel about 1/4″ from the bottom edge.

My original thought was to simply attach the assembled layers to my card front but I decided it needed a bit more contrast. So I pulled out my Early Espresso Card scraps and cut a 2-3/4″ x 4-1/4″ piece and glued it on the left side of the card front. Now I was ready to add the layered piece to the centre of the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Finally I took some of the smallest Copper Clay embellishments from the 2023-2025 In Color Dots pack. I placed two in a line below the sentiment layer just under the bottom right-hand corner. Then I took two more and fixed them above the sentiment just to the right of the Early Espresso layer. With that my birthday card was complete.
I love how this turned out and am always delighted when patterns like these ensure this paper can still be useful long after Christmas is over. Just one word of warning though, when cutting and attaching the DSP pieces, pay attention to the direction of the pattern. I did the envelope first, and then ensured the other two pieces matched.
