It’s Friday, and here in Nova Scotia we’re in for a glorious stretch of weather. We had quite a rainy summer, and so some unseasonably warm and sunny days now are very welcome. One of my friends has a convertible VW beetle and whenever the weather is good I imagine her cruising around with the top down. Today is one of those occasions and I couldn’t resist creating this convertible car bookmark for her. It’s powder blue to match her car, but now I want to create a Barbie pink one!

CURVED OCCASIONS

I began with a 1-3/4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Thick Basic White Card. Then I took the car image and “Make today yours” sentiment from the Curved Occasions Stamp Set. Using Tuxedo Black ink I stamped the car in the bottom left corner of the card strip. Then I stamped the sentiment in the top right.

To colour the car I chose a few sets of Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. I started with the bodywork of the car in light Balmy Blue. Then I added a few shadows using dark Balmy Blue before blending them in with another layer of light Balmy Blue.

Next I used dark Smoky Slate on the tyres and over the lines drawn on the hub caps. After colouring the hub caps with light Smoky Slate I used the same marker on the very centre a second time to darken it just a little. Then I used the light Smoky Slate on the car seat and folded car roof. I also scribbled a few lines beneath the wheels so the car no longer appeared to be floating in midair.

Finally using light Lemon Lolly I coloured the headlight and windscreen, before finishing off the rear light with light Poppy Parade.

For the bookmark base I cut a 2″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Balmy Blue Card. Using the slot option on the Very Best Trio Punch I added a hole at one end. Then I threaded 8″ of White Glittered Organdy Ribbon through the slot and tied it in a simple knot. With that in place I mounted the stamped layer on top with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

And just like that the bookmark was complete and ready to give to my friend later. Now as I look at the Curved Occasions Stamp Set I’m seeing other Barbie related images. Isn’t it funny what happens when a random idea pops into your head?
