There’s lots of discussion about the amount of die used in commercial gift wrap that makes it unsuitable for recycling. So today I thought I’d bring you a possible solution, hand made gift wrap.

STAMPS, INK AND PACKING PAPER
My gift wrap started out as 24″ x 30″ sheets of off-white acid-free clean newsprint paper purchased from our local U-Haul depot. I bought a box of 100 sheets but there are different pack sizes to suit every budget.
For today’s gift wrap I chose the Peaceful Boughs Stamp Set and a variety of earthy ink colours. Then I simply started stamping on the paper.
I had no real design in mind, but to make life easier I began with the largest of the three fir branches. Using Mossy Meadow ink I stamped the branch randomly on the paper leaving large gaps between the images. Then came the medium fir branch stamped using Old Olive ink.
Next using Soft Suede ink I stamped the larger of the two fir cones. My gift wrap was starting to take shape and it was now time to add a sentiment.
So still staying with the Peaceful Boughs Stamp Set I chose ‘Season’s Greetings’, and with Cherry Cobbler ink I added it to my design.

THAT’S A WRAP
The available space on the paper was filling up nicely so now it was time to finish things off.
There were still some images I hadn’t used so I chose Pear Pizzazz ink to stamp some of the smallest fir branches. Then I followed that up with the smaller pine cones, some stamped in Crumb Cake ink and some others using Soft Suede.
To complete my project I turned to the last remaining image from Peaceful Boughs Stamp Set, the spots. Using this image I filled in the remaining gaps in the design with Pool Party ink. In a relatively short period of time my gift wrap was done.
All I need to do now is get on with my Christmas Shopping!
Of course when you’ve wrapped your gift you’ll need a gift tag for it. Here’s some of my previous blog posts with a variety of gift tag ideas for you.
- An inky idea – faded edges
- A snowman arms observation
- Copper and blue, just for you
- Christmas Gleaming sneak peek
- Fun among the mistletoe
- Shake it up with Ice Stampin’ Glitter

BUNDLE BONUS – I bought the Peaceful Boughs Stamp Set in a bundle with the coordinating Beautiful Boughs Dies. This meant I saved 10% off the cost of buying them separately. Although I didn’t use the dies today I’ve included a link to the bundle in case you want to look at this option.
What a wonderful idea. This would be a fun project to do with kids.
Thank you Cathy, yes it’s a really simple project that anyone could do.
Hello,
Nice reminder. I have done that with birthday stamps. Getting out the roll thinking you have wrap and really you just have a sliver.
Happy Thanksgiving
Thank you, it’s nice to be able to coordinate the gift wrap with tags too.
Handmade gift wrap – such a fun way to make a gift even more special and unique! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Barb
