One of the things I’ve realised recently is that products carried over from the July to December 2022 Mini Catalogue are being forgotten. I’m hoping that the reason these items are still available is because they’re going to be included in the Stampin’ Up! 2023/2024 Annual Catalogue. One of these is the Labels Aglow Dies I used when creating today’s card project. As well as cutting peek-through designs on card layers there’s also dies to cut fancy labels. I was delighted to find the perfect one for my birthday sentiment.

SILLY GOOSE
My project began with the goose holding a balloon from the Silly Goose Stamp Set. Keeping it really simple I first cut two pieces of Basic White Card, one 3-7/8″ x 5-1/8″ and the other 4″ x 5-1/4″. Then I pulled out a Basic White Medium Envelope so I could stamp on the front of that too.
Using Basic Gray ink I stamped the whole image in the bottom right corner of the small piece of Basic White Card. After reinking the stamp I then stamped the goose coming in from the bottom right corner on the larger layer. Finally after reinking the stamp once more I stamped him coming in from the bottom right corner of the envelope.
Colouring was quick and easy using just the Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. I began by drawing a long oval beside the line on the balloon using the light marker. Then I coloured everything but inside that oval. Next, with the dark marker I coloured a narrow area down the right-hand side of a balloon. Finally I went back to the light marker to blend in the darker area. After completing each of the three balloons in turn I used just the light marker to colour the feet and beaks. Before putting away the markers I also used the light one to add a little shadow under the wings and scribble some ground on the smaller layer.
For my card base I used my Paper Trimmer to cut and score some Basic Gray Card. Then I folded the card along the scored line and sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder.

Going back to the larger Basic White layer I used Basic Gray ink to stamp “This silly goose forgot!” in the centre. With that done I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue to fix this layer inside the card base.
FANCY LABELS
All I had to do now was finish the front of the card. First I cut a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Smoky Slate Card. Using liquid glue I mounted the remaining white piece on top, then fixed the assembled layers to the front of the card base.
Next from the Silly Goose Stamp Set I chose “A silly goose told me it’s your birthday”. Using VersaMark ink I stamped the sentiment onto some Basic White Card. Then I sprionkled the sticky ink with silver powder from the Metallics Embossing Powders pack. After tapping off the excess powder I removed a few stray specks then melted the rest using my Heat Tool set on 2 (high).
It was only at this point that I began to think about how I would cut the sentiment. I could have used one of the three Pick-A-Punches in the Stampin’ Up! range. But I wanted something a bit fancier. So instead I started to look though the various dies in my stash. In the end I found the perfect size and shape in the Labels Aglow Dies.

Using my Cut & Emboss Machine I cut out the sentiment. Then just for a change I cut two more of the labels from Basic White Card. Using liquid glue I stacked the three die-cut pieces on top of each other before attaching them to the card front. Now my belated birthday card was essentially complete.
However, despite the fancy sentiment I felt it needed a little something ‘extra’. So I reached for a Fine-Tip Glue Pen and covered the balloon on the front of the card with the glue. All I had to do was lay the card somewhere safe for 24 hours to make sure the glue could dry thoroughly. With that done my card was finally be ready to mail.
The Labels Aglow Dies don’t really coordinate with a specific stamp set but are great for adding unique details to project layers. I definitely need to play with these a bit more and remind myself of the other dies in the set.
