One of the things I’ve noticed that’s often misunderstood during the Stampin’ Up! Last Chance promotion is the issue of bundle discounts. This is where a stamp set is bundled with a punch or dies, and the two products are then offered together at a 10% discount. So I wanted to point out that all bundle discounts will end on May 1st. This is true even if both items, like the Sweet Songbirds Stamp Set and Songbird Builder Punch used on today’s project are carrying over to the new catalogue.
When preparing for the end of one catalogue and the start of the next I get through a lot of sticky notes. So it never hurts to get another pad ready.
I began today’s project by stamping the larger of the two birds from the Sweet Songbirds Stamp Set onto some Very Vanilla Card using Balmy Blue ink. Then I punched out the image using the coordinating Songbird Builder Punch. Next I found the teardrop-shaped wing piece that was punched at the same time and stamped that with Balmy Blue ink too.
To give the bird some features I decided to stamp the pair of eyes in retiring Soft Suede ink. Then I stamped the ‘eyebrows’ image around them. Finally I stamped the beak image into the white V-shaped area.
With that done I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) to attach the wing to the bird’s body and set him aside.
Now I needed to create a background layer. First on a 2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″ piece of Very Vanilla Card I stamped the branch with Soft Suede ink. Then I added the leaves in retiring Pear Pizzazz ink. Finally I found the small flower and stamped that three times with retiring So Saffron ink.
At the bottom of the piece I used Soft Suede ink to stamp just the top line of the “just a note of thanks” sentiment.
To finish off I chose the right-facing bird’s legs and inked them up with Soft Suede ink. After stamping-off onto scrap paper to remove some of the ink I stamped the legs onto the branch. Then using Stampin’ Dimensionals I fixed my assembled bird into place.
With the little scene complete I grabbed a standard yellow 3″ x 3″ sticky notes pad.
First I needed to create a cover for the pad so I cut a 3-1/8″ x 4-1/2″ piece of retiring Pear Pizzazz Card. Then with the long side at the top I scored the card at 3-1/8″ and 3-1/2″. After folding the card along the scored lines I sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder, then with the largest section covering the sticky notes I wrapped rest over the top and glued the last section to the back of the pad.
Next I cut a 3-3/8″ x 3-3/8″ piece of retiring So Saffron Card and mounted it onto a 3-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ piece of retiring Soft Suede Card. Then the wrapped sticky notes pad was glued on top of these layers.
At this point I decided I liked the vintage vibe of the colour scheme and decided to repeat the colours used for the base to create additional mats for the songbird scene. So I cut a 2-7/8″ x 2-7/8″ piece of So Saffron Card and mounted it onto a 3″ x 3″ piece of Soft Suede Card. Then I glued the stamped scene onto these layers before gluing everything onto the covered pad. With that my sweet songbird project was complete.
