Last week my sister-in-law lost her 21 month battle with brain cancer. While we knew the end was near it still came as a shock to hear she had finally passed. She inspired everyone with her courage and determination to fight to the end, and she will be very much missed. So this morning I sat down to create a sympathy card using the Woven Heirlooms Stamp Set and Woven Threads Designer Series Paper (DSP).

WOVEN THREADS
I began by choosing the Pretty Peacock design from the Woven Threads DSP pack, and cut a piece 4″ x 5-1/4″.
Initially I planned to make my card base from Thick Whisper White Card but changed my mind and used Pretty Peacock Card instead. So then I decided to add a Whisper White layer between the DSP and the card base.
First I cut the Whisper White Card to 4″ x 5-1/4″, then I reduced the DSP piece to 3-7/8″ x 5-1/8″. Once that was done, I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) to fix the DSP to the Whisper White layer and then attach the assembled piece to the card base.
WOVEN HEIRLOOMS SENTIMENTS
Next I turned to the Woven Heirlooms Stamp Set and stamped the “Thinking of you” sentiment onto a strip of Whisper White Card using Pretty Peacock ink.
Then on a layer of Whisper White Card I stamped the larger sympathy sentiment in the centre before using liquid glue to fix it inside the card base.

Now I had one last bit of stamping to do, decorate the Whisper White Medium Envelope. For this I simply stamped the larger decorative flourish image onto the centre of the flap with Pretty Peacock ink.
TEXTURED THREADS
All that was left was to finish the front of the card.
First I used liquid glue to fix the sentiment strip to a piece of Vellum Cardstock. Then I found the 1/8″ scraps left over from where I’d trimmed down the DSP piece. Using liquid glue I added these on either side of the sentiment.
As I was playing with the layout I decided I needed a little more white to act as a contrast to the dark background. My first thought was Whisper White Baker’s Twine, but it was too ‘basic’, so I picked up some Whisper White 5/8″ Flax Ribbon instead.
I couldn’t decide how to incorporate the ribbon, until I started picking at the threads and pulled a few out. Unlike the Baker’s Twine, these threads had texture, which was exactly what I wanted.
So I put Mini Glue Dots in each corner on the back of the Vellum and used them to secure two pairs of flax threads.

Finally I took four more of the flax threads, tied them in a simple loose knot, and pressed it flat. Then with a Mini Glue Dot I attached the knot to the bottom pair of threads.
All I had left to do was attach the assembled sentiment to the front of the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals and my project was complete.
