It’s a beautiful sunny morning here in Nova Scotia and I’m making the most of the good weather while it lasts. Of course that hasn’t stopped me looking forward, especially with my sneak peeks from the 2019 Holiday Catalogue. For today’s Simple Sunday project I chose the Birds Of A Feather Stamp Set and the Star Designer Elements.

BLACK AND WHITE
I wanted to keep things really simple so started by stamping the Christmas bird image onto Whisper White Card using Tuxedo Black ink. Then I stamped the “joyful Christmas” sentiment in the corner.
Next on another layer of Whisper White Card I stamped the star border image across the top. I finished my stamping with the star border image in a line down the left side on the front of a Whisper White Medium Envelope.
At this point I began to think about my card base. I knew I didn’t want white but wasn’t sure what colour to choose. Then I noticed I already had a card base made up using Basic Black Card. Not your traditional Christmas colour I admit, but why not? So I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) to fix the star stamped layer inside the card base.
COLOURFUL BIRD
I decided to colour my little bird very simply using Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. So I started with the hat and dark Poppy Parade.
Next came the beak with a dark Mango Melody Stampin’ Blends marker. After that I coloured the bird using light Daffodil Delight.
Wait. What?
Yes, for some reason I had subconsciously decided that this was a yellow chick. I blame the lack of coffee in my system. All was not lost however and I decided I could still turn this little guy into a proper Christmas robin.
So I took the light Poppy Parade and coloured a patch on his chest, then I coloured over the whole bird with a dark Crumb Cake. It seemed to work. Phew!

With my robin now dressed appropriately, I used liquid glue to attach the layer to the front of the card base.
All that remained was to take a copper metal embellishment from the Star Designer Elements and fix it over the star and I was done.
BIRDS OF A FEATHER
The Birds Of A Feather Stamp Set is so cute. There are four different bird images, plus the star border and five sentiments. It covers everything from Thanksgiving to Halloween to Christmas and Valentine’s Day.
Simple line drawings that can be coloured, or not, or decorated in other ways. You can see a card using the turkey image from the set in my earlier blog post Stylish Scroll Sneak Peek.

So that’s it from me for today. I’ve got two more sneak peek projects to show you before the 2019 Holiday Catalogue goes live on September 4th. I hope you’ll come back tomorrow to see what’s next.

UPDATED 2020: Sadly the Birds Of A Feather Stamp Set has retired and is no longer available from Stampin’ Up!
This is adorable, Tracy! Fun to see some Christmasy stuff showing up even if it is plenty early; it’s definitely NOT for us card-makers! (as you well know, I realize). Thanks for sharing this little cutie! Hope you’re enjoying a wonderful Holiday weekend!
Thank you Geraldine, you too.
