With pretty sentiments like those in the Go To Greetings Stamp Set designing a card project can be challenging. If I want the sentiment to stand out I tend to go for much simpler backgrounds and layouts. That might involve a subtle paper pattern. Or I’ve used a plain card background layer with an embossed texture for added interest. Today though I decided to pull out my new Decorative Borders Stamp Set. With a tried and tested navy and white colour scheme this elegant birthday card came together really quickly.

DECORATIVE CORNERS
The Decorative Borders Stamp Set contains a beautiful selection of border designs, plus a corner and individual smaller motifs. For this project I only needed one image, the large floral border stamp.
I began by cutting two 4″ x 5-1/4″ pieces of Basic White Card. Then using Night of Navy ink I stamped the image in the bottom right corner of one piece. Next, on the second piece I stamped the image in the top left and bottom right corners. Finally I stamped the image in the bottom right corner on the front of a Basic White Medium Envelope.
My original plan had been to leave the decorative images as they were but instead I grabbed my Blender Pen. Then I simply used it to pull some of the ink from the image into the open areas to colour them.
With that done I used my Paper Trimmer to cut and score some Night of Navy Card for my card base. After folding it along the scored line I sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder. Then I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) to fix the single stamped layer on the inside and the double stamped piece on the front.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
For my sentiment I chose the middle-sized “Happy Birthday” from my favourite Go To Greetings Stamp Set.

Using Night of Navy ink once more I stamped the sentiment onto a scrap of Basic White Card. Then I cut it out using the smaller of the two elongated label-style dies from the new Something Fancy Dies set. Next I used the second elongated label-style die to cut some Night of Navy Card, and glued the two die-cut pieces together.
After that I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to attach the assembled sentiment to the centre of the decorative layer on the front of my card.
Finally I cut 8″ of the new Night of Navy 3/8″ Bordered Ribbon and tied it in a simple bow. Then with a little Tear & Tape Adhesive I added the ribbon below the edge of the sentiment layer and my elegant birthday card was complete.
I used quite a few new products on this card but they all came together beautifully don’t you think? I was especially surprised by the Night of Navy ribbon as I’d ordered it thinking there was a sheer panel running down the centre. However when it arrived I realised it has a much closer weave which I have to say I actually prefer.
