It’s been forever (well 10 days) since I last posted a project for you, thanks to Hurricane Fiona. She barrelled through overnight on Friday September 23rd and having lost power it was October 2nd before we were finally reconnected. We learned some lessons that we’ll put in place for next time, but we are lucky. Over 21,000 properties in Nova Scotia continue to wait for their power to return. So today I made a simple card using the Go To Greetings Stamp Set just to say I’m thinking of you.
IN THE DARK
Before we lost power I had thought excitedly that I’d have great excuse for staying in my craft studio. Sadly, the reality was that the late September daylight wasn’t brilliant. This meant I struggled to see details, fussy cut and colour. I thought of filming a few videos but without my spotlights that would be a waste of time. So when I picked up the Pretty Prints 12 x12″ Designer Series Paper (DSP) pack this dark pattern jumped out at me. It fit the mood perfectly, as a 3-1/4″ x 3-3/4″ scrap fell into my hand.
With one piece pre-cut for the front I decided to cut some more of this pattern for my coordinating feature. I began with a 2-1/4″ x 6″ piece and using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (Tombow) attached it to the flap of a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope. Then I trimmed off the excess with Paper Snips using the edge of the flap as a guide. Next I cut a 3/4″ x 5-1/4″ piece and glued that down the right-hand edge of a 4″ x 5-1/4″ layer of Very Vanilla Card.
For the card base I used my Paper Trimmer to cut a 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ piece of Evening Evergreen Card. Then with the long side at the top I scored the card at 4-1/4″. After folding the card along the scored line I sharpened the crease with a Bone Folder. With that done I glued the Very Vanilla layer on the inside.
GO TO GREETINGS
Now I was ready to stamp my sentiment from the Go To Greetings Stamp Set. From the three different “thinking of you” sentiments I chose the middle-sized one. Then using Evening Evergreen ink I stamped it onto a 7/8″ x 3-1/8″ strip of Very Vanilla Card.
Taking my cue from the DSP I decided contrast the remaining piece of DSP and the sentiment with Soft Sea Foam Card. So I needed two pieces, one 3-3/8″ x 3-7/8″ and the other 1″ x 3-1/4″. Using liquid glue I mounted the sentiment and DSP onto these card mats and then attached them to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
In next to no time my project was complete and on this chilly autumn morning it seems simply perfect. I hope you like it too.
Now all that’s left is for me to pre-warn you that tomorrow (October 4th Mountain Time) you’ll be able to get FREE SHIPPING on any Stampin’ Up! products. There’s no promo code needed, the only catch is that your order must be at least $100. So I’m going to start by stocking up on basics like card, envelopes and adhesive. Then I’ll throw in a few other things too. Well it would be rude not to. Lol
