The snowstorms that have been coming in every few days are seriously cramping my crafting. While I love to stay home and play in my studio, my parcels of new goodies are being delayed. Let’s hope for a couple of days of good weather and then I’ll be happy to be snowed in once again.
So without any new products to explore I decided to go back to the Special Someone Stamp Set. I love the cute animals and other images and they’re such fun to colour (or not).

FIRST CATCH YOUR MOUSE
I began today’s project with the line drawing of the little mouse. Using Tuxedo Black ink I stamped him onto a Full-Adhesive Post-It® Note then cut almost all of him out with Paper Snips. I say almost, because as much as I don’t mind fussy-cutting, to make things easier I simply cut off his whiskers and legs. Afterwards I also realised I’d cut off one of his ears but I didn’t think that would be a problem.
With the mouse done I then stamped and cut out the smaller of the two butterfly images. This time I when I cut out the butterfly I cut off his antennae. Now I had my masks ready I turned to the bookmark itself.
First on a 2″ x 5-1/2″ strip of Thick Very Vanilla Card I stamped the mouse again with the butterfly close to his nose. Then I placed the Post-It Note masks over the stamped images.
SUBTLE BACKGROUND
It was at this point that I remembered to shape the top of the card strip. This I did using the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch which also added the ribbon slot at the same time.

The background was so simple to create using pieces of Stampin’ Sponge. Using Granny Apple Green ink I first sponged along the bottom of the strip. Then I lightly added some Seaside Spray ink over the rest of the card. With that done I removed the masks to reveal the mouse and butterfly.
Although they’re small I wanted the images to really stand out and so I chose to colour them using Stampin’ Blends. I began with a light Highland Heather for the butterfly. Then with light Flirty Flamingo I added a little pink to the mouse’s ears and nose. Finally I used the light and dark Crumb Cake combo to colour the mouse’s fur.
Now the colouring was finished I used Tuxedo Black ink to stamp the sentiment from the Special Someone Stamp Set along the bottom.
To complete the bookmark I threaded a piece of Gorgeous Grape 1/4″ Mini Striped Ribbon through the slot at the top. Then I wrapped some Whisper White Baker’s Twine around it and tied it in a bow.

I never fail to be impressed by the way a lightly sponged background makes small images coloured with Stampin’ Blends jump off the project. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of this technique. What do you think?
Here’s a couple of other projects made using the Special Someone Stamp Set.
