It’s less than a week before Stampin’ Up! announces which products will be retiring from the 2020/2021 Annual Catalogue. I try not to get to hung up about it as it means there’s new products coming. Still, I have a few personal predictions and today’s project features one of those, Color Velveteen Paper. The Color Velveteen Paper has a beautifully soft textured surface and it cuts just like ordinary card. I love it, but I haven’t seen a whole lot of projects using it so that’s why I suspect it may be retired. Today’s project uses two of the three colours in the pack, Soft Sea Foam and Cinnamon Cider.

TAG BASE
I began my project by preparing the tag base from a 2″ x 4-1/4″ strip of Thick Very Vanilla Card. From the Senior Years Stamp Set I chose the elderly man image and stamped it onto the strip using Basic Gray ink.
Next, using the oval hole option on the Detailed Trio Punch, I punched in the centre at the top of the strip. Then I threaded some Braided Linen Trim through the hole and tied it in a simple knot.
My next task was to colour in the image using Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. I began with light Smoky Slate for his hair and eyebrows, and Ivory for his hands and face. Next I coloured his trousers using dark Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends, and added a few horizontal lines for the ‘ground’ using the light Crumb Cake.
For my sentiment I chose the “Happy Retirement!” from the Senior Years Stamp Set. Then I stamped it onto a 1/2″ x 2″ strip of Thick Very Vanilla Card using Basic Gray ink and set it aside.
VELVETEEN PAPER PIECES
I could have continued colouring with Stampin’ Blends, but I wanted to add some texture to the tag. The Color Velveteen Paper was exactly what I needed.
For the next part I decided to use StazOn Jet Black ink as I wasn’t sure how well Stampin’ Up! Classic Stampin’ inks would perform on the Velveteen Paper. I might also need to stamp the image more than one in the same place so I brought in my Stamparatus to help me.

First I stamped the image of the man onto a piece of the Cinnamon Cider Velveteen Paper. Next on some Soft Sea Foam Velveteen Paper I stamped his body. To add some extra detail I decided to add a little colouring on the Velveteen Paper using Stampin’ Blends. On the waistcoat pockets, belt and shoes I used light Cinnamon Cider. On the collar, cuffs and buttons of his shirt I used dark Soft Sea Foam. Then I left the images to dry for a minute or two.
FINAL TOUCHES
Once dry, I fixed some Self Adhesive Sheet onto the back of the pieces. Then all I needed was to cut out the individual parts of the image using Paper Snips. First from the Soft Sea Foam piece I cut the whole shirt (including the belt and parts of the waistcoat that was covering it). Next, from the Cinnamon Cider piece I cut the two sides of the waistcoat and the shoes.
Then I removed the backing paper from the adhesive and fixed the shirt and shoes onto the image stamped on the tag base. This was followed by the two waistcoat pieces fixed on top of the shirt.
Finally I cut a 1/4″ x 2-1/4″ piece of Cinnamon Cider Velveteen Paper and mounted the sentiment onto it with Tear & Tape Adhesive. With that done I fixed the layered sentiment onto the tag base using Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals and my project was complete.
I’m really pleased with how this turned out and especially love his ‘suede’ waistcoat and shoes. What do you think?
