I'm a sucker for a silhouette. I adore the simplicity of these images while somehow still showing so much detail. I also love it when I can 'cheat' with a background scene. So this project, created at the beginning of the month for World Cardmaking Day, was a match made in heaven. SILHOUETTE COUPLE I began my project with this image of a couple in the rain from the Silhouette Scenes Stamp Set. The key to a good silhouette is making the image really dark, it doesn't have to be black, ... VIEW POST
Add An Angled Layer For Interest
When I'm making cards I used to get really stressed about symmetry. Everything had to be evenly spaced, centred and straight. It took me a long time to realise that actually many of the cards I admired didn't have those characteristics. I found that having groups of three was pleasing to the eye, and sometimes putting elements towards a corner looked good too. Now I tell my classes, if you're stressing over getting a layer straight, don't, simply put it at an angle. If it's going to be ... VIEW POST
Sending A Quick Thanksgiving Blessing
Today is the second Monday in October and that means it's Thanksgiving here in Canada. So my post will be short and sweet with a heartfelt thank you everyone who follows my blog, or supports my business by choosing me as their Stampin' Up! Demonstrator. Some I know personally and some only via the internet, but you are all a blessing in my life. SIMPLE 'WASHED' BOOKMARK Today I decided make a pretty bookmark with a 'washed' style background. This was much easier than you might think, ... VIEW POST
The Most Elegant Christmas Sentiment
Of all the stamp sets in the Stampin' Up! August to December 2020 Mini Catalogue one of my favourites has to be "Wrapped In Christmas". With the exception of one tiny decorative image, this is a sentiment only stamp set and it's gorgeous. Each sentiment is a good size and perfect for a focal point on a card. They're also different shapes too, some long, some tall, some plainer and some very fancy. I can see this being a set I'll use over and over again this season. Today I wanted to make a ... VIEW POST
Don’t Overlook Christmas Layers
With all the lovely products available in the Stampin' Up! August to December Mini Catalogue it's easy to overlook older products. So yesterday when I came across the Christmas Layers Dies I put them on my desk to remind me to use them. Little did I know that would be just the start. By the time I'd finished, I'd used two stamp sets and two sets of dies from the Annual Catalogue. CHRISTMAS LAYERS As I said, this project all started with the Christmas Layers Dies. From the three larger ... VIEW POST
Snowflake Scrap Inspiration
Today's project was one of those happy accidents that happen in my studio from time to time. I'd been designing a card and for one of the layers cut a 2" strip from the Snowflake Splendor Designer Series Paper (DSP) pack. After trimming the piece down for my card I realised that the leftover piece was the perfect width for a bookmark. I already had my heat embossing tools out for the other project so I didn't need ink. All I had to do was choose an appropriate sentiment and put it all ... VIEW POST
